Winter Weather on the Way!

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the Lake Tahoe area and we could expect up to 10 inches of fresh powder for opening day!  Here is the full bulletin as of 1:00 pm on 11/20/13:

 

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT FROM 3 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 4 AM PST THURSDAY ABOVE 7000 FEET…

THE WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY ABOVE 7000 FEET IS NOW IN EFFECT FROM 3 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 4 AM PST THURSDAY.

* TIMING: PERIODS OF LIGHT SNOW THIS MORNING WILL INCREASE IN INTENSITY DURING THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS: 5 TO 10 INCHES ABOVE 7000 FEET. UP TO 2 INCHES DOWN TO 6500 FEET.

* SNOW LEVELS: 7000 FEET FALLING TO LAKE LEVEL DURING THE LATE EVENING.

* IMPACTS: SNOW WILL MAKE HIGHER ELEVATION PASSES SLUSHY AND SNOW PACKED BY LATER IN THE AFTERNOON INTO THE OVERNIGHT HOURS. THIS INCLUDES THE PASSES ON INTERSTATE 80… HIGHWAY 50… CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY 88 AND NEVADA HIGHWAY 431. ROADS WILL REMAIN MOSTLY WET THIS MORNING AND EARLY AFTERNOON.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

SNOW IS EXPECTED TO POSE AN INCONVENIENCE TO TRAVELERS. ROADS WILL BECOME SLICK AND HAZARDOUS… WITH SNOW AND ICE FIRST DEVELOPING ON BRIDGES AND OVERPASSES. MOTORISTS SHOULD SLOW DOWN AND USE CAUTION.
